Job Opening

Friday, September 30th, 2011

Anwar al-Awlaki, formerly chief propagandist for al-Quaeda, has moved on: dead.

If war-weary American reaction is “Ho, hum, time to bring the boys home,” we should refresh our understanding of al-Qaeda’s fundamental tenets:

  • purification of Muslim lands from all foreigners, beginning with Saudi Arabia;
  • purification of “apostate” (Westernized, or Christianized) Muslims, either by killing them, or by forcing their compliance with Sharia law, through any means required;
  • resumption of the Muslim conquest of the world; it would be heresy to accept the notion that godless, infidel dogs could peacefully inhabit lands that rightfully are Allah’s.  ”Allah is for the world.”

Pandering to the “World Community”

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Munich.  October, 2008, only a few weeks from the U.S. presidential contest between John McCain and Barak Obama.  The young German woman who helped us get on the right train smiled courteously at my attempt to resurrect my German lessons from long ago, and then asked in perfect English: “Who do you predict will win your election?”

I understood from her question that she was really taking a poll of one American, asking who I planned to vote for.  I had decided to keep my mouth shut in Germany, and just visit, but she asked what was, on the surface, a neutral prediction, so, I told her, “John McCain.”

Confirming my impression, she replied, disagreeing with me, “We think Barak Obama would be better for the German people.” (more…)

Gunfire On Beale Street

Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Last Sunday morning at 3:00 a.m. six people got shot outside a Beale Street club in Memphis, the “Club Crave.”  In a way, it’s a tired story: yet another gunfight in a parking lot, after partying late into Saturday night, outside a club—at a zone where others have presumed to “banned” guns.  I comment only because… (more…)

The Optimum Compact Pistol Search: One Feature Trumps All Others

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

I am preparing to report on my search for the optimum compact, 9mm pistol.  I made my choice, and am waiting only for my test-firing round-count to make it to 500.  You might find my Excel spreadsheet to be useful and I will be sure to post it, comparing the various dimensions and features in table form.

However, regardless of my efforts at objectivity, one pistol trumps all others, if you are a male buyer.  It appears that Glock is the gun for guys.  Buy a Glock and….

Glenn Reynolds Schools the Republicans on Taxes as Political Strategy

Monday, September 19th, 2011

In this article at The Examiner, Glenn reminds us of how the Democrats use taxes to punish political opponents, and how the Republicans—as usual—have mindlessly permitted the abuse.  Glenn makes MJM reconsider his long-held position: that the income tax should be repealed, outright, for all. Jobs, Guns, Freedoms, and Boots

Monday, September 19th, 2011

While we are on the topic of guns walking, today, Liston Matthews, the Knoxville Gun Rights Examiner, reports about a company executive and gun owner who moved from California to Tennessee.  To all of the politicians out there, making noise about “jobs” and hinting that you would do more to bring “jobs” home than the other, this piece opens eyes to the links between the four title words: Jobs, Guns, Freedoms, and Boots.

Israel, the PLO, and the U.N.

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

The nations who ran the Jews out of Europe, joined by people now surrounding the Jews and sworn to annihilate them, band together into an organization attempting to dominate the world.  That, I think, is a fair summary of the PLO’s application the the United Nations Security Council, to be declared to be a nation-state. Gunwalker Slips Into Indiana, Past Mainstream Media

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

David Codrea reports further on Gunwalker, bringing closer to home the fact that the federal government induced gun retailers to make otherwise illegal weapon sales—with weapons ending up passed to criminals.  I comment here mostly because of the politically-correct mainstream media’s disinterest, which is David’s major point in this article.

The press musters enthusiasm for gun-related stories when those fit the “government as Big Brother” anti-Second Amendment narrative.  The mainstream media investigation into Gunwalker has been, well, missing in action.  Contrast, please, the mainstream media’s interest in “high capacity magazines” after the Jared Loughner rampage.   David credits the new media, bloggers, commenters, and readers—people like you.  As David urges, “That’s why regular readers are continuously solicited to share links…”  I comply, and thank one of my own regular readers for bring David’s article to my attention.

I comment also because there now appear to be at least seven dimensions to Gunwalker:

1) sales across the border, supposedly intended to result in somehow traceable transfers to drug gangs;

2) this president’s administration’s cynical use of the project to officially spew anti-gun propaganda, in collusion with a foreign power (Mexico) and a complicit, leftist American press;

3) experiments by ATFE within the United States, to track, trace, and study how straw-man purchases percolate to criminals;

4) the risk to the public created by the operations—creating the same deadly risk that the laws are supposedly intended to prevent;

5) the risk to BATF agents of integrity who tried to stave off use of the agency to induce citizens into committing criminal acts;

6) the corrosive, corrupting influence of cover-up;

7) the risk to the gun shop owner that his solicited, good-citizen cooperation will result in his prosecution by the government for the very act that the government requested him to perform.

To gun store owners: Be very careful about cooperating with any law enforcement agency asking you to make a straw-man sale.  The benefit to law enforcement seems dubious at best, the risk to the public is for real, and you put yourself in a very tenuous spot.  Seek advice of counsel at the minimum.

Officer Involved Shooting: Suspect Was Target, But Shots Hit Bystanders

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

It will be interesting to learn from this San Francisco officer-involved shooting, in which the bullets missed the targeted suspect, but hit bystanders.

I’ll start: When shots are fired, do something.  Shoot back, take cover, run, stop drop and roll, all of the above, or something.  Moving to cover would be a good start.  Remaining highly visible, “no-shoot” targets on the real, wild range is not good.
