Susie’s Lemonade: What Really Happened

Monday, April 30th, 2012

I got a laugh this morning out of a comment by “mikee” to a Say Uncle post captioned “Kids love capitalism.”  Uncle’s wine-making and his daughter’s free-enterprise inquiry reminded me of the original “Susie’s Lemonade Stand” Verizon commercial.

That is one of marketing’s truly great ads.  Verizon capitalized on the ad’s success, and we all delight to watch Susie build her business, provide jobs to her friends, and startle her dad with her success.  But, what really happened there on Susie’s street? (more…)

Gun-carrying hero arrested!

Friday, April 27th, 2012

Oh, wait.  Stop.  Strike that.  This armed citizen who drew his firearm to stop a crazy slasher from knifing other shoppers, saved people in Salt Lake City—not in Chicago or New York where he would have been arrested.

Thanks, Instapundit, for the heads up.

Indifferent to black children being murdered by “guns”?

Friday, April 27th, 2012

Breitbart shines light on government-funded political indoctrination, masquerading as education.  This time, in Chicago, (Surprise!) the targets were guns and the NRA in particular.  Kyle Olson watches as leftist activists use the government schools to indoctrinate new community activists.  He writes, ”Camille Williams of the Peace in the Hood movement, made several inflammatory statements about gun ownership and the National Rifle Association. She claimed the NRA is indifferent to gun violence.”  She was talking about murders of black youth, as part of her pitch to students during “Social Justice Week.”

So, MJM stopped gnawing a mastodon bone for a minute, and, in a non-neanderthal sort of way, undertook a bit of introspection.  ”Am I indifferent to gun violence against young black people?” I says to myself.  I had a beer and thought about it for a few seconds.

“No,” I discovered.  Indeed, while the propagandist’s statements slur the truth (How many murders of black young people are committed by NRA members, after all?  Is she including anyone under 18 as a “child?”) I nevertheless considered her moral challenge, and discovered that I take the shooting and killing of innocent, young, black people very seriously.  How seriously? Without “Stand your ground…”

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

Police in this Nashville shooting are not charging the apartment-resident who killed the would-be robber.  Without insulation from prosecution for lawful use of a firearm in self-defense, the authorities might be asking the guy who was supposed to be the victim:

“Could you have holed up in the bathroom?”

“Could you have just sort of dashed out the door, right by the home-invader and run away?”

“Why didn’t you try harder to run away somewhere?”

“We think you could have hidden in a closet, so we are charging you with murder.  While we are at it, we will over-charge you with first degree murder, and we will all just let the jury sort it out.  Hope you got lots of cash to hire a lawyer.  Speaking of, you have the right to…”

Without a law that respects the law-abiding citizen, honors that citizen’s right to be where he has a right to be, and recognizes that that citizen was not the aggressor, those are the bizarre inquiries police and prosecutors might be making of you, if you defend yourself and kill your attacker.

Now, let’s examine the shooter’s tactics: (more…)

More EEOC Idiocracy, Ants & Elephants

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

You manage an auto parts store.  The hours are long, and two other competitors draw your customers from within a mile of your store, but you demand excellent customer service from your employees.  Your insistence on customer service pays off; your sales are hanging in there, and you are hoping for a promotion.

Ed, one of your employees, shows up one day behind the retail counter, wearing a dress.  You tell him to get his &*$ back to the house and “Don’t show up looking like a pervert, again.”  He tells you he is really a woman, and is in the process of “changing sex.”  He will soon be “Elizabeth,” he tells you.  You tell him you have 40 job applications on your desk, and he is fired.

He complains to your city government first. (Watch out for progressive mayors who try to subject the city to these kinds of lawsuits.)  Then, he takes it on up, and you end up summoned by the government workers who staff the EEOC.  (Which I call the “Employee’s Extortion Opportunity Commission.”)  You must answer his charges of discrimination.  You forward this to your company’s HR people, and they send it on up to in-house counsel.

You discover that “sexual orientation” and transgender identity are now protected classes, and you have violated the civil rights laws.  You discover that your promotion is “on hold.”  Word is, you will be sacrificed.

You employers out there, so worried about your property rights being eroded by laws like Tennessee’s safe commute bill: You are stomping on the ants, and letting the elephants run wild.

And there you have it—why America no longer works

Thursday, April 26th, 2012

This Democrat is so right.  And, so, so wrong.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”
― Alexis de Tocqueville

This one gets filed under “Idiocracy Report” because the”idiocrats” now run the country.

Propaganda Shattered

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

This is Reuters, reporting with background information on George Zimmerman.

As the American version of western culture explores the reaches of liberal, welfare-state, agnosticism—and breaks down—a specific subcultural slice of of black Americans has eroded especially fast.  Yes, I said it.  (more…)

Milestones

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

Finished first draft of manuscript of my third novel this morning as the sun rose.  No terrorist-hunting this time.  Took a break from that grim and bloody business.  It is a murder mystery, set in a creepy English village.

Is there an app for this?

Wednesday, April 25th, 2012

This Fox News online article asks; “Are drivers ready for Big Brother car insurance plans?,” http://fxn.ws/K2W1Ih – Sent via the FOX News Android App.

I have a different question.

If a valid measure of safe driving is how frequently, and how hard you brake, my Droid could measure that.  So, is there an app for that?

“Mission Accomplished?”

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

The State Department—never the strongest bastion of the American way—will eat these words:

It is no longer the case, in other words, that every Islamist is seen as a potential accessory to terrorists. “The war on terror is over,” one senior State Department official who works on Mideast issues told me. “Now that we have killed most of al Qaida, now that people have come to see legitimate means of expression, people who once might have gone into al Qaida see an opportunity for a legitimate Islamism.” (The National Journal, Tuesday, April 24, article by Michael Hirsch quoting “one senior State Department official”)

In other words, the administration hopes now to make nice with the Caliphate as the Caliphate consolidates within its former empire—and eyes their next move against the West.

The “war on terror” is a mere alarm to the much greater war that I see no end to.  As the rising Islamic movements assert themselves over their former and soon-to-be-former dictators, they will seek first to drive us from the Middle East altogether.  From time to time, they will find creative opportunities to kidnap, behead, blow up, and otherwise terrorize wherever they find westerners whether in Madrid or Minneapolis.

Simultaneously, they will assert themselves even more within America as they have already done in Europe, as this courageous young woman illustrates starkly, on video.

“If the law of the land is Islam, we will respect the law of the land.” The man comprehends no obligation to subject himself to the laws of the United Kingdom because the UK is not an Islamic kingdom. His solution is to make the UK into an Islamic kingdom.

Americans—including Muslims who came here to escape the oppression of your own land, and agnostics who somehow think that the Baptists are your greatest threat—you had better wake up.  You will not be spared, either.

The “war on terror” is nowhere near over.  9-11 sounded a very loud warning, and I observe that many of us have not yet gotten the message.
