War in the Middle East

09/12/2012 @ 7:39am

On September 11, while we were absorbed in sentimental reflection, Islamists struck the United States embassy in Egypt and our consulate in Libya.  Our ambassador to Libya, and others, were killed.  Make no mistake: these attacks were pre-planned and coordinated.   Forget this viral movie silliness: the date is no coincidence.  These attacks are a resumption of—an extension of—September 11, 2001.  These attacks are an extension of the Muslim conquests of over a thousand years ago.  This Egyptian writer wails that we will “misunderstand” what those “protesters” were saying, but he is correct about what I understand:

Egyptian activist Wael Ghoneim wrote on his Facebook page that “attacking the US embassy on September 11 and raising flags linked to al-Qaeda will not be understood by the American public as a protest over the film about the prophet.  ”Instead, it will be received as a celebration of the crime that took place on September 11,” he said.  (Al Jazeera, “US envoy dies in Benghazi consulate attack,” 9-12-2012).

Exactly: These attacks on the United States, on September 11, 2012, are a celebration of and a resumption of the 9-11 attacks.

Power structures among Middle East countries held Islamic conquest at an uneasy distance over decades.  Ordinary Muslims who just want to live a peaceful life with their families bought into the anti-Jewish hatred, and failed to quell the fanatical murderers among them.  Now, those Middle East powers that held Muslim mayhem at bay are breaking down.  Quickly.  Predictably, but quickly.  This should come as no surprise.

The United States lacks a foreign policy—that must include a military strategy—that accounts for the Islamic revolution that is erupting before our eyes.

It is long past time for a more intelligent and effective Islamist strategy.  Note, I did not say “Middle East” strategy.  The Islamist conquest is broader in scope than the geography of the lands dominated by Islam.  This is President Obama’s Jimmy Carter moment.  Will President Obama’s response going “forward” encourage decades of more attacks by Islamists against Americans?
