In my town, a gang of four young men in hoodies pressing in, surrounding your table in a restaurant, would be seen by most for what it is: aggression, threat, intimidation. In Chicago, they figure they can get away with it.
But, some of those diners here might be armed.
In the future, some of those Chicago diners might be armed too.
It’s not about the loss of a cell phone. It’s not about the value of stolen property, great or small. It’s about people explicitly or implicitly threatening your life. It’s about your peace to go about in the world without being beaten, robbed, or murdered.
