Hi. When luckygunner.com offered a place for me to blog to you about all things gun, I leapt at the opportunity. I created this Blog, Your Constant Companion—for you. So, thanks for joining me here and asking to know more about the author.

You may have read my first novel, the military-espionage thriller, Arcturus. Like Arcturus’s main character, Jack McDonald, I served with the 101st Airborne Division’s 1st Battalion of the 506th Infantry. You know the 506th Infantry Regiment better as the “Band of Brothers” regiment. Currahee! Like Jack, I earned my own black and gold “Ranger Tab” at Fort Benning. Like Jack, I drove out Fort Campbell’s Gate 4 and left the Army behind. I will never forget serving among United States Army infantry.

I named Jack McDonald to honor my own father, Donald Jack Mollenhour. His gold bars were pinned on my uniform the day I was commissioned into the Army. I still have his bolt-action, single-shot rifle, my first gun. The gun is far more than just a machine. That’s why I named this blog Your Constant Companion, taken from Thomas Jefferson’s advice to a young man to let his gun be his constant companion.

As an attorney, I’ve long defended small businesses against frivolous lawsuits. Defending the right to keep and bear arms locally, I’ve met many fine gun-owners and other “community activists” defending our freedoms against the subtle attacks of those who want you—the individual citizen—disarmed.

As a lawyer and author, reasoning and words are part of the job. I like exciting, action-packed thrillers, like those written by Vince Flynn and Tom Clancy but much fiction leaves me hungry—unsatisfied. I want more from the characters. I want to know why they crawl through mud, why they deploy to hot, sandy, strange places to put their lives on the line for others. Why do they fight for people, some of whom despise them? I want to hear from the story’s characters that they still believe in their country. I want to learn from them more about the deep source from where such loyalty springs.

So, I wrote my own first thriller for fun and adventure, but also for two serious purposes. In Arcturus, I sound a warning cry that bloodthirsty enemies infiltrate and encircle America. And, I honor our warriors—overt and covert—who keep the story of Arcturus from exploding across tomorrow’s headlines.

In writing this blog, I chose the gun because the gun represents your mind, your will, your life. The gun represents your fears transposed into constructive action—and it represents your protective shield over your loved ones. They live the blessing of another day depending on whether you brought a gun to the fight—along with the training to raise it against your own intimate, immediate kick-in-the-groin from the reality of evil in the world. At that precipice moment, the gun culminates your application of will plus hard, loud physics to the no longer theoretical problem of good and evil. You will enjoy the luxury to debate that metaphysical problem later, only if you work the terminal ballistics physics immediately, right then—at the moment your loved ones most need you.

At this web log, you’ll find a source of news and commentary that stir your warrior within. You’ll find a humble comrade sharing your quest. The gun will be our catalyst—our constant companion.

May God bless America and thank you for men and women willing to “man the walls” in the hot hellholes across the world where our evil enemies hide.
