Selective Outrage: Afghanistan Civilians Killed in 2011

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

Where is the press outrage over the news that Afghanistan civilian wartime deaths are at a record high?  Deranged leftoids accused President Bush of mass murder.  I’m listening ….  Where are the indignant voices now?

Counter-terrorist victory in Philippines

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

You would not have found this US and Filipino victory in the Global War on Terror (GWOT) by a normal reading the US press.  Leave it to Al Jazeera to report the hunt-down of (they barely acknowledge) Islamic terrorists, now fertilizing the Philippine islands.  Al Jazeera is a better source for a broad view of the news than—I swear, they are less biased than MSNBC and the other drivel.  You want to know what’s going on in the world, check out Al Jazeera.  I’m not saying buy into the hate-Jews propaganda.  I’m just saying they cover the stories.  Did you know that while some of the US is experiencing an unusually mild winter, parts of Europe have hit the next Ice Age?

“I thought it wasn’t loaded!” Taking Rule One from fuzzy false concept to safe behavior

Monday, January 30th, 2012

At a local gun show over the weekend, a vendor shot himself in the hand while showing a gun to a customer.  You can read the story here.  Chagrin and blood aside, we all might as well learn or re-learn something from it.

People assuming guns are unloaded continue to maim and kill.  The failure starts with Rule One: All firearms are always loaded.  Well, consider this heresy: Rule One is vague.  Rule one makes a fact statement, but it orders no action.  Even worse: Rule One is false.  All guns are not always loaded.

Yes, I know the rule really tries to create a mindset that assumes the gun is loaded, but exactly what are you supposed to do with that assumption.  Why leave the rule unclear?  The other rules require you to do something, or check something.  Rule One—on its face—does not.  How do you actually comply with Rule One?

Here is how to make Rule One require the shooter to do something safe.   Rule One means… (more…)

Senator Santorum on Gun Control

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

Early in the primary season, I had checked candidates’ web sites, and been dismayed that the Second Amendment did not even rate as an Issue tab on most.  Ron Paul made his stance plain; Perry and Romney were no-shows. (Though Rick Perry did shoot a coyote.)  Even now, the Romney site is embarrassingly scant of substance: “Jobs, Healthcare, Foreign Policy” are the listed issue links.  You will not find Mitt expressing his passion for the liberty to keep and bear arms, on his campaign site.

In stark contrast, here is the Santorum web statement recounting Senator Santorum’s record on Second Amendment issues, and here is his answer to the GOA survey (GOA notes the Romney campaign still won’t answer.)

And, click on “Read the rest of this entry” if you want to see MJM’s ideal, model candidate position statement on the Second Amendment (repeated here from an earlier post).  This is what I would like to see the candidates stating they believe about the right to keep and bear arms.

Another home invasion robbery stopped by armed home occupant

Friday, January 13th, 2012

I am sure that this homeowner, reasonably feeling threatened with death, fired just as the robber turned to flee.  That must be why the robber got shot in the rear end.  Surely, the owner did not decide to pick off a fleeing felon.

Home invasion robberies around here are just not good business.

U.S. Marines, Betrayed At Highest Levels of Leadership

Thursday, January 12th, 2012

So, some Marines pissed on Taliban corpses?  Big deal.  I think it’s pretty funny.

Shocking? (Afghan Defense Ministry)  Nah, not shocking at all.  I’m not shocked.  Are you shocked?  Some good humored, crass, military humor is not shocking to anyone who has ever been among troops.  It’s not like they set off a bomb in a crowded marketplace.
Utterly deplorable? That’s Panetta’s take on it.  Really.  They took a leak on some Taliban they killed.  You’d think they scammed the public out of half a billion dollars of “green investment” taxpayer money, or something.  Now, that’s utterly deplorable.
Completely inhumane?  The ever-grateful, Hamid Karzai added that one.  I mean, nobody got beheaded, or anything.

McCain wants the Marines punished.  How foolish of John McCain to sound off.  He and Panetta join with CAIR and the Taliban, competing with their self-righteous and ironic complaints.

Our U.S. Marines are being betrayed at the highest levels of their leadership.  I’ll keep those Marines, and toss out their pathetic leadership from Washington, D.C. and from Kabul.

President Obama’s Future Defense Plan–Summarized

Sunday, January 8th, 2012

This article from Wired magazine is a good summary of what the administration plans for the military’s future.  My interpretation: meant for public consumption in the election run-up.

Scott Walker Recall as Most Important Election of 2012?

Friday, January 6th, 2012

In this USA Today editorial by Nick Schultz, American Enterprise Institute, he brings our attention to the front line election battle going on right now.  Nick Schultz thinks that the Scott Walker Wisconsin recall battle may be more important even than the presidential election.

Scott Walker’s courageous seizing of the helm in a state where government-worker benefits threaten to leave Wisconsin shipwrecked, is a test case for all of us.  The left, the unions, and the Democrats in general turned the election of Governor Walker into a symbolic fight to save the welfare system and governing class as we know it.  They saw that more was at stake than just a turnover in Madison, so they stormed Madison—and trashed it.  Wisconsin provides for recall elections.  They are right now working toward getting the required number of signatures.  I hope those are checked closely.

Whether the Scott Walker recall is the most important election of 2012, I do not know.  I do see this: Governor Walker’s recall fight will foretell whether or not Americans are ready to liberate themselves from the parasitic governing class that threatens to sink us all.

Oklahoma mom kills home invader

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

Young mom, just widowed. Home alone. Crying baby. Two home invaders, knife-armed. Mom kills one with her shotgun. Other one runs.
Good.
I comment only because mom felt compelled to ask 911 dispatcher for authority to shoot.
